Relatives file suit against bars for serving drunk driver

Family members of a victim who died in an alleged drunk driving wreck have filed dram shop suits against five local bars that served alcohol to the at-fault driver. The Connecticut family filed the suit in late April, and they are seeking compensation from five bars in Norwalk, Westport and Fairfield. These establishments could be held liable for as much as $250,000 in damages because of their relationship to the drunk driving accident.

Car accident kills Connecticut teen, injures 2 others

A teenager died in a Connecticut vehicle accident that left two other young residents injured. Authorities report that the 18-year-old Bolton High School senior died in the one-car crash, which was reportedly caused by the 20-year-old driver. A 16-year-old passenger was also seriously injured in the car accident, according to initial reports.

Motorcycle crash kills 78-year-old; drug intoxication blamed

A Connecticut man is facing serious criminal charges after he allegedly killed a man in North Branford. The driver, age 22, is accused of causing the motorcycle crash when he rear-ended the 78-year-old victim's vehicle. That younger man is accused of drug-related offenses, and officers believe that he may have been intoxicated on a variety of substances at the time of the collision. The defendant is also accused of vehicular manslaughter and negligent homicide, among other violations.

Motorcycle accident deaths drop on average nationwide

Good news for Connecticut residents: motorcycle deaths nationwide are decreasing in frequency. The yearly rates of fatal motorcycle crashes fell for only the second time since 1997, according to recently released 2013 statistics. A new report from the Governors Highway Safety Association showed that a 7 percent drop occurred in motorcycle deaths throughout the country. About 300 fewer deaths occurred in 2013 than in 2012.

Drunk driver gets jail time for crash that injured trooper

A woman accused of striking and seriously injuring a Connecticut state trooper will serve 18 months in custody for her role in the injurious crash. The woman's full sentence was for five years, but the remainder of that time is slated to be suspended, and she will spend three years on probation after her release. The woman accepted a plea deal in connection with the drunk driving accident.
