A 36-year-old East Hartford, Connecticut, man has been charged with first-degree manslaughter for his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run crash in Newington that killed a 51-year-old women from New Britain. Police state that the man turned himself in after he was identified as the alleged driver. The identification came while police were investigating a cockfighting ring in East Windsor in which 45 people were arrested.
According to police, the charge of manslaughter stemmed from an incident that occurred in February on a Tuesday around 4:30 p.m., when the Ford vehicle the man was driving allegedly hit another car. The man then reportedly abandoned his car at the scene and ran away on foot. The woman was transported to a hospital, but later died that night as a result of her injuries.
While subsequently searching through the vehicle, investigators reportedly found a bond form from a previous arrest with the man’s name on it. He is also believed to have been involved in another vehicle crash that occurred in Newington in the parking lot of Puerto Vallarta located near the Berlin Turnpike.
In addition to the first-degree manslaughter charge, the man is also facing multiple charges that include, driving without insurance, second-degree forgery, driving an unregistered vehicle, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, and evading responsibility. Bond has been set at $150,000. He is expected to appear back in court on April 15.
