Drunk driving accidents are all too common in America

Drunk driving accidents can lead to serious injuries and deaths of innocent people who were just going about their daily activities. Drivers who are intoxicated are responsible for around one out of every three fatal accidents in this country. That harrowing statistic shows just how crucial it is for people who have been drinking to avoid driving.

When it comes to drunk driving problems like injuries, deaths, crashes and arrests, around one-third of the drunk drivers involved are repeat offenders. These repeat offenders sometimes have at least three drunk driving offenses. One way that has been noted to help prevent repeat offenders from driving drunk is the requirement of ignition interlock devices for drivers who are convicted of drunk driving offenses.

Some people think that just taking away the driver's license of a convicted drunk driver can stop the problem; however, around 50 to 75 percent of those people who have their license taken away will still drive. Those intoxicated drivers are hazards to all of us who share the road with them.

Even when the use of an ignition interlock device is present, there are still going to be drunk drivers on the road. Around two-thirds of drunk drivers haven't been arrested. Those are all drivers who might cause accidents that can devastate families.

People who have been injured by drunk drivers might be ready to take a stand against this irresponsible choice. Seeking compensation is one way that injured parties might decide to try to hold the drunk driver accountable for getting behind the wheel after consuming alcoholic beverages.
