Relatives of a man who was killed in Connecticut in a drunk driving accident nearly a year ago have traveled from Alabama and California to attend recent courtroom proceedings. The 54-year-old driver accused of causing the pedestrian accident has entered a not-guilty plea in connection with the charges, according to news reports. He is facing allegations of second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, along with second-degree manslaughter, drunk driving and other claims.
The defendant in this case was only arrested on March 28, even though the accident occurred on April 20 of last year. Attorneys for the family say that although the process has taken some time, the legal team is still satisfied with the way the state police and other authorities have handled the case. Lawyers for such victims may be able to advocate for their clients throughout the investigation proceeding, helping relatives stay informed about lengthy legal requirements.
The victim in this case, a 28-year-old man, died as he was waiting for a taxi in a parking lot. He leaves behind two children and a wife. The man died after he was struck by the motorist’s pickup truck; he was thrown about 200 feet down an embankment, and he was declared dead at the scene. The defendant is accused of striking the victim after drinking at the Mohegan Sun casino. His blood alcohol content at the time of the auto-pedestrian accident measured at 0.14 percent, which is significantly higher than the state’s legal limit of 0.08 percent.
No family should have to suffer through the loss of a loved one because of someone else’s negligence. That is why it is so important for a thorough police investigation to occur.
