Connecticut woman arrested for hit-and-run death

A 48-year-old Connecticut woman who allegedly was involved in a hit-and-run accident currently remains behind bars on a $750,000 bond. She is expected to be in court on Monday, Feb. 23 for her first court appearance. The woman is facing multiple charges, including felony evading responsibility, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating without insurance, reckless driving and second degree manslaughter.

The charges against the woman stemmed from an incident that occurred on Friday, Feb. 20 around 10:41 p.m. According to police, that's when a 20-year-old female, who was walking in the vicinity of Meriden Road near Southmayed Road in Waterbury, was fatally struck and killed by a vehicle allegedly driven by the 48-year-old woman. The female, who was found to be unresponsive, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment but later died.

Police state that the woman driver, who allegedly was intoxicated, left the scene and proceeded to drive to her home on Woodtick Road. A witness who had been following the woman's car called police to notify them of her whereabouts. Upon their arrival, police located the vehicle, which had received damage to the passenger side mirror and windshield.

During a subsequent breathalyzer test, the woman's blood alcohol level was found to be above the legal limit. She is said to have failed an administered sobriety test. The woman was arrested in her home.

Individuals who have lost family members due to a hit-and-run by a drunk driver may have legal rights and could be entitled to compensation for the loss of their loved ones.
