Connecticut man faces charges for fatal hit-and-run

A 57-year-old man from Kent, Connecticut, has been charged with a Class D felony for leaving the scene of a fatal auto accident in the town of Armenia, which sits on the Connecticut border. The charges stem from an incident that occurred around 8 p.m. on March 19 when the man allegedly struck a 36-year-old mother from Copake, New York, with his vehicle.

According to investigators, the woman was hit by the man's truck, which was traveling southbound on Bog Hollow Road as she was leaving an in-home merchandise party that she had attended. Police state that the woman was attempting to get into her car as she was struck and that her vehicle had reportedly been parked near the side of the road. After the accident, she was transported to the hospital for treatment. Later she died from her injuries.

Police reportedly later located the man's vehicle in Kent on March 21, but the man was not found until two days later. He was subsequently interviewed in Connecticut and arrested.

Although his court arraignment was in Amenia, the defendant was later remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond or $25,000 cash bail. Police say that the investigation remains open and the man may face additional charges for the alleged hit and run.

Family members who have sustained injuries or lost a loved one due to a car accident may be entitled to compensation for their injuries or loss of life of their loved one. A Connecticut personal injury can provide guidance and help determine whether civil action is a good option.
