Hits to the head in an accident can lead to a concussion

Pedestrians and bicyclists who are struck by vehicles will often hit their head when they are thrown to the ground. When that occurs, there is a chance that they will suffer from a concussion. While some people might think of a concussion as a mild injury, they can actually be quite serious.

A concussion can change the way your brain works. It can take a considerable amount of time to recover from a concussion. In some cases, it might take as long as three months to get back to normal. Long-term issues like trouble with memory can often last longer than the recovery time.

This mild traumatic brain injury has a host of symptoms. Some of the more common symptoms include decreased coordination, numbness, headaches, nausea, confusion, weakness, and vomiting. These symptoms might take days or weeks to show up after the hit to the head.

Because the symptoms don't show up right away, it is critical that anyone who suffers a hit to the head seeks medical care right away. Getting an early diagnosis is the first step in getting the treatment that can help you to recover from the effects of the concussion. Some of the treatments that you might benefit from include occupational therapy, cognitive rest, cognitive therapy, vocational therapy, and physical therapy.

If you suffered from a hit to the head in a pedestrian or bicycle accident, you might opt to seek compensation from the driver who struck you. Compensation can help to cover medical bills and other damages that you suffered because of the accident.
