Too many people die at the hands of drunk drivers

Far too many innocent people die in drunk driving crashes each day. In this country, there are nearly 29 people who die daily due to intoxicated drivers. While the number of fatalities has been decreasing over the last 30 years, the rate is still too high.

The primary issue here is that these wrecks are preventable. These drivers didn’t have to drive after drinking. They could have been more responsible. Yet, they made the decision to throw caution to the wind and do what they wanted to do.

Some people who have been drinking might think they are fine to drive. The fact of the matter is that even when a person’s blood alcohol concentration is as low as .02 percent, they start to feel the effects. At this low level, they can lose some judgement, have a decline in their ability to do two things at once, and have visual changes. All of these can negatively impact their ability to drive.

Even when the victims of the drunk driving crash don’t perish, there is a good chance that they will suffer injuries that last an entire lifetime. These serious injuries could have been prevented, but the drunk driver chose to ignore proper safety procedures.

Victims who survive and the family members of the ones who don’t might choose to seek compensation in these cases. A successful claim for compensation might help to defray the costs of the care you need due to the accident. There isn’t any reason why you should have to be the one to cover these expenses when the drunk driver caused the crash.
