A two-car accident that occurred around 2:30 a.m. on February 14 is reportedly the cause of an almost six-hour road closure that happened on Interstate 91 in Connecticut on Saturday. The accident is said to be responsible for sending five people to the hospital.
According to Connecticut State Police, the automobile accident stemmed from an incident that began after a Scion vehicle became disabled while it was traveling toward Exit 14 in the left center lane of I-91 north. The disabled vehicle was then struck by a Nissan that was being driven by a woman from Middletown.
Police state that all four of the passengers who were riding in the Nissan required hospitalization for injuries suffered in the accident. Two of the passengers reportedly received spinal trauma along with serious injuries to their heads. A 30-year-old male who was riding in the Scion was also seriously injured in the crash and was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment.
Weather is not thought to be a factor in the crash, according to investigators. The pavement was reported as being dry at the time of the impact and there was no known precipitation in the area. The highway was reportedly shut down for the six hours so that investigators could work to determine the chain of events that led to the accident.
Individuals who are injured during an automobile accident due to the actions of an alleged negligent driver may be entitled to receive compensation for their pain and suffering, as well as possible compensation for medical expenses and loss wages.
