Get ready for the wintry roads in Connecticut

The winter season brings a lot of challenges to the people of Connecticut, but most people are ready for it. One thing that needs to be given special consideration is the road conditions of the area when there is snow or ice.

Being prepared for being stranded is necessary in the winter weather. Before you head out in the first snow of the season, make sure that you are ready.

You need to get an emergency kit together to keep in your vehicle. While you might not need everything that is listed here for every trip, you need to make sure that you have it all if you are going to venture far from home.

Keeping warm is a priority during the winter months. If you are stranded on the side of the road, you need to have a blanket and warm clothing. Gloves, hats and scarves can help. You might even want to put extra socks in your emergency kit. You should also add some nonperishable snacks and bottled water to keep your energy up and keep you hydrated if you are stranded.

You may find yourself stranded because your vehicle skidded off the road. Having something to help with traction, such as kitty litter or sand, can help you to get unstuck. On top of this, you will need a shovel so that you can create pathways for the tires. The shovel can also help you if your vehicle is in a snowbank because you can use it to dig out the tailpipe. Never start your vehicle if the tailpipe is blocked because carbon monoxide can seep into the vehicle and kill you.

There is a chance that the reason you aren't able to get away from your vehicle is because you were in an accident and the roads are too bad for emergency services to get to you. If this is the case, a first aid kit might help you so be sure to pack one of those.

If you are injured in an accident that was caused by someone else's negligence or recklessness, a personal injury attorney can guide you on how to pursue compensation for your damages.
