Connecticut-based readers may remember a drunk driving accident that nearly cost a woman her life in 2007. Now, that drunk driving victim is working to prevent drunken people from driving. According to her story, she was struck by a drunk driver who clipped the left side of her vehicle; the truck she was in went out of control, and it rolled a number of times.
When the truck stopped rolling, they’d landed in the parking lot of a beauty parlor. The driver, her friend, asked if she was okay, but she told him she couldn’t move her arms. The 25-year-old who hit them had continued driving, but he was stopped and charged in connection to the accident. Unfortunately, the damage was done. The woman’s neck had snapped; some of her lower bowel had to be removed, and she was bleeding internally.
Now, however, her journey includes helping others understand why drinking and driving is so dangerous; she speaks regularly as part of a victim-impact panel to those who have been caught driving under the influence, according to the Jan. 11 news. She claims to still suffer from permanent pain from her elbows down; she can’t run, and her medication makes her nauseated and tired. According to the news, the man who struck her served two years in prison for the accident, but he was convicted again in 2008 and 2011 for driving under the influence, according to court documents.
In a drunk driving accident, speed, negligence and distractions could result in serious injuries or death. If you’ve been injured in Connecticut, it’s important to look into your options. You may be able to seek compensation to pay for your medical bills, pain and suffering, and financial struggles due to the accident.
