An arrest warrant has been issued for a 37-year-old man who allegedly struck and killed a 38-year-old male pedestrian. The pending charges against the man stemmed from an accident that occurred on the night of March 8 near the vicinity of Ernie’s Market at the intersection of Williams Street and Albany Avenue.
Family members say that the man had stopped at the store to buy a pack of cigarettes just prior to the accident. He was then struck as he was leaving the parking lot.
According to investigators, the driver was allegedly driving drunk in his 2001 Chevy Blazer SUV when he ran a red light, then hit the Hartford, Connecticut, father of six and a parked car that was near the scene. Although the injured father was subsequently transported to Saint Francis Hospital after responding firefighters attempted to perform CPR, the man was later pronounced dead at the hospital due to his injuries.
Although witnesses say the driver appeared intoxicated and was questioned by authorities that night, police state that they did not have enough evidence to hold him and make an arrest for drunk driving. The man now faces multiple charges for the accident, including operating a motor vehicle without a license, second degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, first-degree manslaughter, operating under the influence and reckless driving.
Individuals who have been injured or lost a loved one due to an auto-pedestrian accident may have valuable legal rights and could potentially be entitled to compensation for their injuries or the loss of their family member.
