A 33-year-old New Britain woman is facing four years in prison after pleading guilty to drunk driving. She also received five years of probation for the automobile accident that killed a 32-year-old paramedic. The woman pleaded guilty to second degree assault with a motor vehicle and second degree manslaughter.
The automobile crash occurred back in March 2014. According to police, the woman was allegedly speeding and drunk when her automobile went across the center line while she was traveling on New Britain Avenue. She crashed head on into another vehicle that was being driven by the paramedic as he headed to his job at the American Medical Response’s office in West Hartford.
Court documents state that after the crash the woman’s blood alcohol content was 0.0212, which is well over Connecticut’s legal limit of 0.08. Police reportedly determined during their investigation that the woman’s vehicle was traveling at around 55 miles per house when it crashed into the paramedic’s car. The speed limit on that section of the road is 30 mile per hour. The woman and another driver who was unable to stop and slammed into the back of the paramedic’s vehicle both sustained injuries in the crash.
