Alleged drunk driver creates chaos in multiple car accidents

A 61-year-old man from East Windsor is facing multiple charges after he was involved in several accidents while traveling in the area of Bridge Street. The charges against the man include three counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, driving while under the influence, reckless driving and evading responsibility.

The charges against the man stem from a series of incidents that the man was reportedly involved in on Tuesday, May 26 around 4 p.m. Police initially began receiving a series of phone calls that a truck had hit several vehicles while it was driving through the Geissler’s Plaza parking lot and then drove off. While the police were in the middle of responding to those calls, more calls came in about other vehicles that were struck by a truck in the parking lot behind Maine Fish Market.

Responding officers found five heavily-damaged vehicles behind the building along with two more vehicles that were damaged at Geissler’s Plaza. They also identified three drivers who had been standing next to their vehicles that were almost hit by the truck when it went through the parking lot. The alleged driver of the truck was also discovered in the vicinity still inside the vehicle. A subsequent breath test revealed that the man’s blood alcohol level was reportedly more than three times the allowed legal limit.

Although no injuries were reported, four of the vehicles sustained serious damage and were towed from the scene. The man was released on bond and is schedule to appear in court on June 9.

Individuals who have been in a car accident as a result of an intoxicated driver may be entitled to compensation and could find it beneficial to learn more about their legal rights.
