Young people who consume alcohol often think that they have everything under control. Unfortunately, this isn’t usually the case. Drunk drivers of all ages can cause fatal accidents. In fact, someone is killed in a drunk driving accident in this country every 51 minutes. This translates to 27 deaths that are senseless each day. On top of those deaths, someone is injured every 120 seconds in a drunk driving crash. That’s one person who suffers needlessly every two minutes because a drunk driver wouldn’t just stay off the road.
Many people think that how they feel is a good indication of how intoxicated they are. This isn’t the case. The only good indication of how impaired a person is from alcohol comes from taking the blood alcohol concentration, amount of alcohol consumed and the type of alcohol consumed into consideration.
Contrary to popular belief, drinking coffee isn’t a way to reduce the impairment from alcohol. The only way to get over the impairment is for the body to metabolize the alcohol, which is commonly referred to as sleeping it off.
Here is another shocking statistic for you to consider. On average, a drunk driver has driven while intoxicated 80 times before they are arrested for a DUI. This shows just how prevalent this issue is in this country.
If you were injured in a drunk driving accident, it is imperative that you take action. There isn’t any reason why the drunk driver should get away with the effects without being held accountable for his or her actions. Filing a civil lawsuit is one step toward seeking the compensation you need for your injuries.
