Types Of Ankle Fractures
There are two main types of ankle fractures: trimalleolar fractures and bimalleolar fractures. A trimalleolar fracture involves three separate bones: the lateral malleolus, the medial malleolus and the distal (or tibia, as it is more commonly known). A bimalleolar fracture involves two separate bones: the lateral malleolus and the medial malleolus.
Our personal injury attorneys handle both types of ankle injury claims. In our experience, we have found that these serious injuries require surgery. During the period of recovery, which is usually six weeks, the injured person cannot bear weight. Additionally, hardware such as plates and screws may be inserted to fix the bones back together. The surgery to install the hardware is called an ORIF (open reduction internal fixation) surgery. The hardware may or may not stay in place, depending on how it is tolerated by the individual’s body.
Complications can arise due to the ankle injury. These complications can include arthritis and severe restriction to ankle movement. If the person experiences continued pain, fusion may be necessary.
Our law firm is dedicated to securing maximum compensation on behalf of our clients who sustained ankle injuries accidents in motor vehicle accidents, slip-and-falls and workplace accidents.
We handle personal injury and workers’ compensation claims arising from ankle fractures. No matter how your injury happened, you can turn to us with confidence.
